I am planning on doing the 7-day AIDS Life Cycle bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, CA next June (2011). I haven't really been a bicycler for years and I know getting back into it and then training for this event will be lengthy and, to some extent, painful, but I believe in the cause and I want to have this experience for myself.
So to the nitty gritty. I'm 5' 2" and about 255 with a pretty large overhanging stomach and I find that just riding my beach cruiser around is pretty uncomfortable as I keep hitting my stomach. I sat on a couple bikes at the bike shop that are geared for the type of riding I will be doing and the problem is even worse.
Anyone have any advice, experience, etc. that could possibly help me navigate this issue? Thanks.

I would rather they pay us for the advertising, but ...
LivingXL.com has bikes made especially for large people. I don't know if the design is different or it's just a bike that can withstand more weight. I also don't know if it's a serious enough bike for what you need. It may be more of a day in the park kind of bike. But check it out. Keep us posted on this, it's awesome!
